Armed with tablets, ID badges and lots of information, teams of workers started knocking on doors on Tuesday, offering to help renters and homeowners apply for the ANCHOR property tax benefit.

Some 300 “canvassing professionals,” called the “ANCHOR Outreach Team” by the state Treasury Department, are visiting communities in an effort to sign up more eligible residents for the benefit.

State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio said having “boots on the ground” will bolster the state’s efforts to “make sure every eligible resident applies for and receives their benefit.”
